The cliffs above St Margaret’s Bay is said to be the first place in the country that the sun reaches each morning and is the point at which hopeful Channel swimmers depart for France.
The secluded cove and lovely seaside village of St Margaret-at-Cliffe, which is just two miles from the sea, lie midway between Deal and Dover and within the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There is much to see and do, including experiencing ‘first light’ at the South Foreland Lighthouse and enjoying the history of the ancient church of St. Margaret of Antioch before following the valley down to St Margaret’s Bay and the Pines Visitor Centre and Museum.
With a wide range of superb accommodation, tea rooms, restaurants and great Kentish pubs to choose from, there are plenty of places in which to relax and revive once you’ve explored the spectacular countryside and coastline of St Margaret’s.
