Hawkhurst Food Festival a Success!
The Beefing it Up festival, celebrating 100 years of the Oxo cube at Hawkhurst on 24th & 25th July was a fantastic success. Around 2000 people visited Saint Ronan’s School, to see the house, the exhibition of OXO memorabilia and walk the local woods and farm land. Many visitors also visited Sandhurst Vineyards to see the hops and vineyards there.
TV and celebrity chef Richard Phillips, of Thackerays and Chapel Down fame, designed and demonstrated a four course meal, for the evening gala dinner comprising 95% of local produce. 120 Guests, included three grandchildren of the original Gunther family, and ex Directors of OXO then sat down to the meal in the school's amazing ballroom
The Market on the Moor on Sunday received over 2500 visitors and trade was so brisk that many traders had to send back for additional produce within hours of opening.
The event was a great example of a community playing to it's strengths and thinking big. Although this success was all down to the effort and enthusiams of local volunteers, Hidden Britain was right there, supporting them every step of the way.
